Our 2021 events program can accommodate both in person, virtual, and on-demand. We have started a new series called, Open Book Author Series. https://www.writersblockbookstore.com/open-book-author-interview-series This series is an accumulation of author virtual events past and interviews with authors where we showcase the video with the book on the same page. It is our plan that once the video is up on the same page as the book that we consistently promote through all of our marketing channels such as newsletter, social media, website, and in the store. We will sometimes play videos in the store at the café, will share older videos for a variety of reasons such as new releases, throwback Thursdays, and any other ideas we may have. The plan is that we would schedule an interview, Lauren reads the book and interviews the author, and we post and promote! Check out some of the interviews so far.
Orlando is one of the fastest-growing cities in America, with over 1000 people moving here daily. We have witnessed this by increasing sales in our store and attending our virtual or live events. Orlando is in the center of the State with easy access in and out of the airport. There are two major highways. Winter Park is on the northern side of an affluent area. Our new store in Winter Garden is on the west side, close to downtown Orlando and the growing communities. Due to the current situation, we are incredibly flexible. Whether the author chooses to be in person or virtual or goes from in-person to virtual, flexibility is the key and reflected in our request. We encourage you to view these links we share for much more details on programs and event
Big Announcement! Our second location is now in downtown Winter Garden. We make every effort that book lovers find out about future and past events through newsletters and social media. Pre-orders and pre-sales and post-sales are an integral part of the virtual or in-person event. On the occasion where the book has already come out, we can make sure that attendees can buy and read the book before the event. We work with authors and publishers marketing so we can engage along with the author for the events. Our web traffic has increased substantially. We are taking advantage of the new normal of shopping by offering discounts, coupons, and retaining our customers is the number one goal. One example is https://www.writersblockbookstore.com/may-we-suggest-your-next-book, a successful webstore form we have to suggest books, averaging 20+ requests a month. Also, we are constantly updating our Featured book list and providing videos and showcasing new releases and authors as much as we can. https://www.writersblockbookstore.com/newbooks
Marketing the online event will be handled exactly the way we promote all our events such as press releases, submit to online event calendars, newsletters and event blasts, social media to name a few. https://www.writersblockbookstore.com/authorevents. On October 2nd we hosted our first live book-signing for international bestselling author, Nicholas Sparks. Partnerships are vital in creating and promoting successful events are vital. We have partnerships with both profit and non-profit organizations all over Orlando. These partnerships allow us to offer beautiful and easily accessible venues for all size events, plus cross-promotions. We encourage our partners to also post the event afterward if they have it set up on their sites. Partners mentioned below do post previous events.
This year we combined our events by participating in an author’s series called JCC partnership which includes seven JCC in Florida. We are also participants in the National JCC Consortium, brought by Atlanta JCC where JCC’s are participating all over the country for a year of the virtual event. See, https://www.writersblockbookstore.com/florida-jewish-book-fest-2020. This web site is ever-changing and will be promoting events throughout the year. At the event, which drew more than 400 people from across the State of Florida and as far away as Texas, Nicholas Sparks said, "By far, the event at Writer's Block was the best and most organized stop of the tour so far!"
To ensure the health and safety of all at this in-store event, the staff at Writer's Block Bookstore enacted the following safety plans and protocols for the Nicholas Sparks event:
- All WBB Staff wore masks
- All attendees were required to wear a mask
- The number of attendees allowed in the store at the same time was limited to 56, which was the safe, social distancing capacity based on the store's square footage, per the fire marshal
- We utilized signs and existing fixtures to route guests in a way that ensured proper social distancing spacing of 6 ft. or more at all times
- Guests were required to use hand sanitizer before entering the store and hand sanitizer stations were placed throughout the store
- The flow of guests was one-way into/out of the store to improve flow and reduce face-to-face contact
- No selfies were permitted. A professional photographer was on-site to take photos of guests with the author. The photos were staged in a manner that allowed both to be in the shot at the same time but still observe social distancing guidelines
- In the ticketing process, we offered scheduled times for guests to choose from when they registered in 30-minute increments. They were required to arrive at their designated ticket time
