Pre-order The Watchmaker's Daughter

THE STORY BEHIND THE WATCHMAKER’S DAUGHTER PREORDER ARTWORK

by Larry Loftis

The final work, HAND SIGNED by the artist, will be a frameable 6" x 9" pen and ink (which is far more detailed, vivid, and looks like an etching) drawing, and will be FREE with preorders (up until March 7th).

On the top right corner of this image is the turn-of-the-century etching/engraving that hung on the wall of Casper ten Boom's watch shop. It was titled "The Watchmaker," and included a moving poem warning folks to get their spiritual house in order while there was still time left on the clock (it's in my book with a translation of the Dutch).

So I thought it would be really cool if we could have an artist create a similar drawing, only this time with Casper and Corrie in it. Enter Dee DeLoy, former Disney artist and four-time winner of the Addy Award (the Oscar for artists). I sent Dee the etching, along with a number of photos of Casper and Corrie. The photos on the left in the image above are of Casper at work, and the bottom one shows Corrie holding two watches for him to look at (matching what is going on in the etching). The bottom right photo is the Beje, home of the ten Boom watch shop and residence.

In the middle is a rough pencil sketch of what Dee is planning. Notice that it includes what was really in their shop ... watches in the cabinet to be repaired, the calendar date of 15, and, most importantly, the etching that hung on their wall (over Casper's left shoulder).

What could be better than a great story with great art? :)
